Latin rock band Rabí was formed in 1998 by guitarist Rodrigo Guillen, keyboardist Ricardo Olivas, and drummer Manuel Corona, who started playing under the name of Avenida. They decided to change the band's name when bassist Ramon Guillen joined the act soon after. By the end of the year, singer Ernesto Vitela became the group's leading vocalist. While playing at a local club called Jaimes & Jimmys, Vitela decided to leave the band and was replaced by David Guillen. In December of 1999, Rabí had the opportunity to open for Aleks Syntek, later participating in a charitable event called La Luz De La Navidad Enciende La Esperanza, playing along with Amanecer.
