This Japanese hard rock quintet was formed in 1978. Inspired by fellow countrymen Bow Wow, Yukihiro ‘Ace’ Nakaya (vocals) and Shigeo ‘Rolla’ Nakano (guitar) decided to put together a band along similar lines. Recruiting Bunzo ‘Bunchan’ Satoh (guitar), Masaaki ‘Cherry’ Chikura (bass) and Tadashi ‘Popeye’ Hirota (drums), they were picked up by the local SMS label. The resultant From The Black World combined Van Halen, Deep Purple and UFO influences. It was an impressive debut, somewhat marred by an inferior production. However, the band remained virtually unknown outside their own country and the album was their solitary contribution to Japanese metal.
