Chilean blues-rock band Mandrácula was formed when a group called Banda del Capitán Corneta disbanded after recording its debut album Perros Dias, which was released by local label Alerce in 1994. Two years later, Mandrácula signed up to BMG, issuing an EP called Estoy Llegando Muy Cerca. After moving to Alerce, the group recorded a self-titled album in 1998. That same year, they were awarded for Best Rock Performance by the Chilean Songwriters Association (SCD). Mandrácula made its debut at MTV Latino with the video for "Buenos Muchachos," directed by Alfredo Silva.
