The Long And The Short enjoyed a brief spell in the UK pop spotlight when ‘The Letter’ reached number 30 in September 1964. The song was originally recorded by R&B act Don And Dewey, but was revived by its composer, Sonny Bono, as the debut release by Caesar And Cleo, the duo he had formed with his wife, Cher. The Long And The Short, meanwhile, broached the UK Top 50 in December with a follow-up single, ‘Choc Ice’, but their perky, ‘beat’ intonations were quickly overtaken by newer, more exciting styles of music.
