Brazilian pop/rock performer Leonel Vange got involved in the local scene while participating in a reggae band known as Os Camaroes during the early '80s. He later joined a rock act called Vessel and recorded a self-titled album in 1987, which was released by CBS. In 1991, Leonel Vangel recorded his first solo album, released by Sony Music, getting the hit "Noite Preta" included in the TV series Vamp, receiving a Sharp Award for pop/rock Revelation one year later. In 1993, the singer participated with "Maluco Beleza" in a tribute to Raul Seixas called O Inicio, O Fim e O Meio. From 1997 to 2000, Leonel Vange worked as columnist for the national gay magazine Sui Generis.
