In early 1997 Dr. Dan B. Turner Jr. and Dwayne "Kou Kou" Coots started the original Kou Kou an da ZydebeaT. They were joined by Troy "Trigger" Leger, Dean Turner and Jay Bracken as original band members. In 1999 the line up for the band was, Dwayne "Kou Kou" Coots, Dr. Dan B. Turner Jr., Troy "Trigger" Leger, Billy Trahan and Gordon "Red" Suire. Dwayne "Kou Kou" Coots is a self taught musician as well as singer / songwriter. He plays a variety of musical instruments including accordian, guitar, piano, drums, harmonica and frottoir (rub-board). He has showcased his vocal abilities in a number of bands as well as live performances in the theatre. With the band he can be found playing the accordian and doing lead vocals. Dr. Dan B. Turner Jr. is from Kinder, Louisiana. He plays rhythm guitar and contributes back up vocals to the band. He also writes some of the material for the band. Troy "Trigger" Leger, a native of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, plays the bass guitar in the band and aids with the back up vocals. He is the stage manager for Kou Kou an da ZydebeaT. Gordon "Red" Suire, also a native of Lake Arthur, Louisiana, is the lead guitarist for the band. He has been crafting his hot licks, that are now legendary, for twenty-five years. Billy Trahan began crafting his skills at the early age of eight by beating out the rhythm on garbage cans and old pots. He keeps the driving beat on the drums for the band and helps out with back up vocals. Kou Kou an da ZydebeaT has been described as a hard working, responsible, drug-free band with a very professional attitude.
