Kara Distefano - AKA Slim - has been immersed in the Jazz life from birth as her father, an amateur drummer, was active in the Jazz world as a collector and historian. Raised on the music of Billie Holiday, Ray Charles, Lambert Hendricks & Ross, Blossom Dearie, Mark Murphy, Mose Allison, Bob Dorough, Louis Armstrong, Ellington, Coltrane and the like. By the late '70s she had begun contributing reviews, and later interviews, under the nom de plume Karrah. Since the mid '80s, Ms. Distefano has worked as a consumer consultant on advising individuals about the relative merits of the whole range of creative improvised music, but in particular her specialty, Jazz vocalists. In 1985 she joined Cadence Jazz Magazine and NorthCountry Distributors as a buyer and director of special services. She also works as an assistant editor.
Ms. Distefano lives in upstate New York, is as active artist, and is a rated long distance runner and triathlete.
