As a child growing up in Vancouver, Canada, Jon Azpiri dreamed of either playing trumpet in James Brown's horn section or being the starting point guard for the Seattle Supersonics. Since neither The Godfather nor The Sonics bothered to return his calls, he has settled for a career as a freelance writer where he divides his time between writing about music and sports. He is a contributor to the hip-hop magazine XXL and has also contributed to The Source. He is also a contributor to SLAM Magazine and Inside Stuff. He has also contributed to The Vancouver Sun, The Georgia Straight and Seattle Weekly. ~ Jon Azpiri
