One of Australia’s finest women singers, Lewis has had a varied career. Performing initially in blues bands and at folk festivals, she then took to the theatre stage. Lewis also displayed her left-wing political affiliations openly, particularly during an extended visit to South America for three years. She has also covered an album of songs by Edith Piaf, after portraying her life in a 1982 stage production. However, some of her strongest work are covers of the little-known Australian singer-songwriter, Graham Lowndes, particularly on Till Time Brings Change. She continues to work mainly in women’s theatre, both in production and performance.
