As a one-shot nom de plume for musical genius Mark Heard, iDEoLA was a mixed success musically, if not financially. He was touted as the next intelligent upstart on Tonio K.'s WHAT? Records. The sole iDEoLA album, Tribal Opera came out in 1987 claiming to incorporate "jungle rhythms." Jungle rhythms there were not (unless you're talking about a precision-timed, white-collar jungle), but what the iDEoLA experiment did accomplish was to showcase the talents of Mark Heard as a one-man-band. Much of his later successes came in the wake of this quirky side project.
