Uruguayan Latin rock band Hoy Juega was formed in 1997 by young musicians Leonardo Alzogaray, Federico Bogliacino, and Gabriel Alvarez. During 1998, the band played along with bands such as Fleco and M-12 while participating in different local festivals. In 1999, the group teamed up with musician Mako, creating a show called Mako Hoy Juega, opening for Argentinean Rinaldo Raffenelli. That same year, Hoy Juega released their first album, called En El Límite Del Espejismo.
