A collaborative project launched by Red Marc, a resident UK DJ with the Drum Club, and Matt Early, formerly of Bumble, who once enjoyed a club hit via a celebrated Andrew Weatherall remix of ‘West In Motion’. Their debut release together, ‘Ceasefire’, was recorded with sampled sounds from the war in the former Yugoslavia, to raise money for the Serious Road Trip charity. This was no idle conscience-appeasing effort, but an attempt to ship food and medical supplies directly to Sarajevo. The samples were collected personally by Early on a visit in 1993, and as well as the sounds of conflict embraced library recordings of many years of native Yugoslavian music. The project was designed to portray ravers and dance music fans as something more than mere hedonists and consumers. Early has also lectured to the British Council on the positive, unifying nature of club music. ‘Ceasefire’ was released on the Drum Club’s Midi Circus Projects imprint, only their second release.
