Comprising Doran Beattie (vocals), Dan Lowe (guitar), Jeff Boyne (guitar), Royden Morice (bass) and James Llewellyn (drums), Canadian hard rock group Hammersmith formed following the dissolution of Painter. They recorded a self-titled debut album for Mercury Records in 1975, but soon after its release Boyne was replaced by Craig Blair (guitar) and Llewellyn by Dale Buchner (drums). Their second release, It’s For You, moved away from the conventional rock patterns of their debut with more esoteric, humorous lyrics and some musical themes borrowed from the progressive rock era. It failed to boost their fortunes, however, and soon after its release the group broke up. Lowe subsequently joined 451º.
