The pre-eminent hard rock group of Yugoslavia in the early 80s, Gordi comprised Zlatko Manojlovic (guitar/vocals), Slobodan Surdlan (bass/vocals) and Gedomir Petrovic (drums). Heavily influenced by British rock music, the sound they offered on their 1981 debut album, Pakleni Trio, was close in conception to that of Black Sabbath or Motörhead - albeit without the originality of songwriting. A follow-up collection released the following year, Kraljica Smrti, was just as brutal, and managed to secure a cult audience outside of central Europe. Sadly, the group found it difficult to gain work permits to tour outside of the Balkans, and this hampered their original impetus.
