The Final Solution was formed in 1965 in San Francisco, California, USA. Ernie Fosselius (lead guitar), John Yager (rhythm guitar), Bob Knickerbocker (bass/vocals) and John Chance (drums) became one of the many groups based in the city struggling to find success. Their fiery brand of folk-inspired rock proved highly engaging, but the group failed to secure a recording contract. Mainstream Records showed initial interest, but opted to sign Big Brother And The Holding Company instead. Jerry Slick, late of the Great Society, replaced John Chance in November 1966 and, for a brief time, the group featured Jane Dornacker as vocalist. On these occasions they were billed as Earth Mother And The Final Solution. They split up in 1967 when Slick opted to resume his career in cinematography. Fosselius also pursued film-making interests and during the 70s contributed animations to Sesame Street. Knickerbocker completed the acclaimed television documentary Where The Buffalo Roam.
