Comprising John Rich (vocals), Par Ericson (bass, vocals, flute), Benet Fischer (guitar) and Dag Eliason (drums), Swedish hard rockers the Ef Band formed in 1978, originally as a trio. By 1980 they had added Rich to become a quartet. They made their debut one year later with Last Laughs On You for Mercury Records. With the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal movement gaining pace in the UK, the Ef Band found ready support for their similar back-to-basics hard rock assault, which also flirted with progressive rock elements. They were included on EMI Records’ Metal For Muthas Volume 1 compilation - one of the agenda-setting releases of the early 80s, and they also supported Rainbow on their Scandinavian tour. However, subsequent releases failed to build on this momentum. Eliason was replaced by Dave Dufort on drums (brother of Denise Dufort of Girlschool) and Rich was replaced by former Nevada Foxx singer Roger Marsden in 1984. The following year’s One Night Stand, their first release for Mausoleum Records, sounded both dated and tired, and the Ef Band broke up soon after its release.
