This trumpeter was active on the Kansas City jazz scene for several decades, avoiding contact but not confusion with the pianist of the same name who led Eddie Johnson's Crackerjacks. The same cannot be said for tenor saxophonist Eddie Johnson, also not the same person: the two wound up in the same band when the trumpeter grabbed on to a two-week substitution stint in what was considered a well-paid band. After an evening early on in this run, when the horn section sounded sloppy, Jordan was said to have remarked: "I know what the problem is with this band! Too many Eddie Johnsons!"
