Dusty Sorbet first hit the Halifax folk scene in 1995 with his self-released debut EP of Fucked Up Little Pony. With only his acoustic guitar and storytelling lyrics, his second EP, The Night the Lights Went Out, followed in 1996 with an accompanied backing of bassist Lukas Pearse and drummer Benn Ross. This lineup would continue to perform live through the rest of the year before Sorbet's two-year hiatus from the Halifax music scene. 1998 would see his return EP, In Time, with his previous rhythm section as well as the addition of Sean Cassidy (keyboards), Shannon Cunningham (backing vocals/percussion), and Lisa MacKenzie (percussion/ backing duties). This lineup was eventually featured on Dusty Sorbet's 1999 album, entitled A Still Life With Timely Nick Nacks.
