Listeners who drool at the idea of Progfest 2000 would surely show great enthusiasm for this David Martinez. He is a keyboardist and drummer who has played since the early '90s with Codice, a Mexican band that draws inspiration from the ancient Mayan and Aztec cultures, at least in terms of naming the combo with a variation of "codex." Composer and performer Marco Corona began assembling the band in 1992 following his arrival in Monterrey, beginning with players such as drummer Fernando Gamez and keyboardist Mario Mendoza.
Martinez came along in a later wave of participants, expanding from drums and percussion to keyboards along with the flux in band membership, or more appropriately as was written in the codex. Bassist Arturo Garcia was one of his new rhythm section partners, with Corona and Mendoza still on the shelf from the original setup. As for Progfest 2000, that was a compilation released in 2000 on the Musea label, featuring challenging tracks by Codice as well as other bands with even more interesting names, including Spock's Beard.
