Costa Júnior, or Juca Storoni, as sometimes he signed, was a pianist and director of a lyrical company. He wrote a famous march satirizing the adulators of the powerful politician Pinheiro Machado, "No Bico da Chaleira." Among the many revues he wrote, he had success with O Bendengó (1889) and O Sarilho (1890), a satire to the proclamation of the Republic. He also wrote the "Tango do Amapá," celebrating Barão do Rio Branco's diplomatic victory.
