Singaporean dance group Club Ecstasy were formed in 1992 by keyboard player/vocalist Leonard Tan and lead singer Kevin Verghese. Eventually expanding to a trio, they submitted numerous demos to local radio stations before signing with the independent record label, Valentine Music Productions. The group’s debut album, Midi Genetics, mixed high adrenaline house music with hip-hop beats and samples, winning them a huge audience among their country’s more discerning young music followers. The follow-up, the impressively titled Virtuosos Of The Infinite Acid Bath, proved even more popular, attracting strong reviews from western journalists. A third collection, Club E, was promoted via the release of a cover version of Andy Gibb’s disco classic, ‘Shadow Dancing’, as its attendant single.
