This band was formed in San Francisco, USA, in 1973 from the ashes of Grootna. Vic Smith (guitar) and Greg Dewey (drums) were initially joined by Mark Ryan (ex-Quicksilver Messenger Service; bass) and Charlie Hickox (keyboards), but interest in the band soared with the arrival of former Jefferson Airplane vocalist Marty Balin, whose participation, however, was not great. Record company interest in Bodacious D.F. waned when Balin’s attitude became abundantly apparent, RCA Records dropped an option on their contract and the unit spilt up in 1974. Balin later joined Jefferson Starship while Smith and Dewey formed the equally irreverent Reptile Brothers.
