The studious New Lost City Ramblers credit their concert recordings of "Tennessee Blues" to Bill Moore, but this is neither the swing big-band arranger nor the country & western songwriter whose collective publishing catalogs might actually stretch across the state of Tennessee. Furthermore, it is not the Bill Moore, also known as William Moore but maybe two different people, who recorded country blues material in the '20s -- that Moore was from Virginia. The members of the New Lost City Ramblers no doubt learned "Tennessee Blues" off recordings of the North Carolina Ramblers, also circa the late '20s. There are at least half a dozen unrelated songs with this title as well, not to mention other blues that mention this state in the context of a more specific gripe.
