The Carioca couple formed by vocalist Gabriela Geluda and bassist Mauro Berman (former Coma and Planet Hemp) moved to London (England) in the mid-90's, where they played in bars and, in 1999, they formed the Auwê, with the Brazilian Luís de Almeida (electric and acoustic guitars) and the English Mark Hinton Stewart (keys). Subtle, faded references to Brazilian music (Brazilian Portuguese lyrics, baião and music from Minas Gerais) are the core of the group's sound, that is more reminiscent of the lyrical progressive sound of bands like Renaissance, mixing also New Age elements with a pinch of Indian music to a pop/folk sound. In London the Auwê opened for Marisa Monte and Caetano Veloso, sharing the stage with Bebel Gilberto in the Braziliance Festival.
