Mike Baehr's act of one man acoustical antics became known as Ashland upon his Boston performance debut, early in 1994. With his use of witty and sincere guitar pop quirks enthralled with the lo-fi styles of 4-Track recordings, Baehr had the chance to release a series of Ashland cassettes as well as having the chance to play guitar in Stage 65 and Tipili until their demise in 1996. Baehr continued to write and record songs that didn't go beyond the involvement of just himself and his acoustical guitar, even after moving to out Austin, TX in 1998. Eventually contributing to the Oda King Made This Dress compilation that same year on Hub City Records, the label was inspired enough to release Ashland's first full-length This Time of Year in 1999.
