Lead singer Kate Leduc was told after a high school audition that she couldn't sing. Rather than accept the criticism at face value, she continued. In the late nineties, the Australian met guitarist and multi-instrumentalist Fred Leduc. Kate began adding backing vocals to Fred's music and his group called Deluc. Fred Leduc had also released some solo material and was studying at LaTrobe University to complete a Bachelor of Music degree. He was also working with drummer Anthony Scaffidi. In March 2001, the trio performed several shows and made appearances at music showcases and festivals. In May of 2001, Arctic added bass player Graeme Kent. In 2001, the band released its self-titled debut album. Arctic have also performed at the Hard Rock Cafe in Australia. The band can be described as a blending of The Corrs with the layering of Garbage.
