Jamaica born and Toronto based Ahdri Zhina Mandiela is a dub poet and theater director. In addition to two books of her poetry published by Sister Vision Press -- Speshal Rikwes, published in 1985, and Dark Diaspora....In Dub, published in 1991 -- Mandiela has recorded two cassettes of her poetry set to music, First and Last and Barefoot and Black, and a 15-track CD, Step/Into My Hat. Mandiela, whose work is featured in the autobiographical 1997 documentary film, On/Black/Stage/Women: A Diasporic Rag, is the editor of the poetry series, On/Black/Stage/Women: The Playwrites. Mandiela's poetry is included in several anthologies of contemporary Canadian poets including The Last Word, published by Insomniac Press, and Wheel Come Again, published by Goose Lane Editions.
