Originally put out on Steel Yard, this Hooj offshoot label breathes new underground life into Origin's minimalist "Wide Eyed Angel." The "Inversion" mix hisses and prances about with an overextended female vocal (think Celine Dion suffering nervous exhaustion mid-song) while a grumpy trance breakdown shows just how close this single can work as a stroppy adolescent equivalent to the more aquatic Solar Stone. Can an instrumental save it? Not as such, but the "Force Mass Motion" mix will have to do: more squishy in a progressive sort of way, it hacks up the vocals until the original song is left bleeding in the gutter. Ugly.
