A striking blend of R&B, pop, garage, and early-AM club stylings, this debut effort is prominent in both hook and groove. Tafuri's sassy phrasing and accents convey the tune's restless lyrics strongly -- added to the sensitively crafted melodies, the single is a dance classic, more than a few notches above similarly rooted material of the time. The highly atmospheric, distinctively produced original 12" and 7" mixes are by far the best. However, the "Silk on Steel" mixes lend a pleasant house vibe to the track. While the different mixes were released on two separate 12" singles in the U.S., the U.K. CD single contains both takes in one package.
