This Arhoolie LP features the fiddles of Paul Anastasio and Joe Holley in a trio with guitarist Frank Hicks on a bright instrumental set that emphasizes hot versions of swing tunes. The music shows off its roots in country, yet is strongly jazz-oriented. While Anastasio worked with Asleep at the Wheel, Holley had been with Bob Wills, among many others, and Hicks was with the Texas Tornadoes in the 1940s. The three musicians are heard at their best throughout the obscure but rewarding set, getting a rare chance to stretch out on such tunes as "Lady Be Good," "Honeysuckle Rose," "Rose Room" and "Kansas City Kitty."
