These are among the final recordings made by the Hot Club Quintet featuring Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grappelli, as the group was dissolved at the outbreak of WWII. Not only is this group important to the history of jazz, influencing countless artists since, but these performances still sound fresh more than 60 years later. Reinhardt and Grappelli are captivating players and the joy of these recordings is difficult to resist. There are a great many compilations of the band from this era, but as a budget collection, this one is hard to beat.
