Despite all the competition from Cuban and U.S. bands, Billo and the lads were popular well beyond the borders of Venezuela in the '60s and '70s. The sound was mainstream mambo-era big band but with the variations you might expect from a South American group, particularly but not only in the group's excursions into cumbia.
