As its title states clearly, the 2000 Kiss DVD Unauthorized was put together solely by fans with no input from the masked quartet. A compilation of interviews, newscasts, pictures, and fan-filmed footage from over the years, Unauthorized is almost identical in setup to 2001's The Vintage DVD (no Kiss music was permitted to be used on the DVD -- in its place is an unknown pop-metal band bashing out Kiss-like riffs). Highlights include a pair of inadvertently hilarious clips of Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley doing "Rock Against Drugs" TV commercials during the '80s, the band's induction into Hollywood's "Rockwalk" (Ace Frehley and Peter Criss were inducted in a separate ceremony from Simmons and Stanley -- this was "pre-reunion"), and a clip from early 1983 in which the group is briefly interrogated by a preacher accusing Kiss of Satan worship. Extra added "bonus" footage includes a 1984 record store autograph signing, plus bios on all Kiss members past and present. Unauthorized is obviously aimed at the longtime fan (newcomers should start with one of the band's many officially released documentaries).
