One of Mosaic's pet projects was the complete reissue of all of the Blue Note label's early prebop recordings. This single LP has three unrelated but enjoyable small-group sessions originally cut for Blue Note. Pete Johnson is heard on two piano solos and in a trio for four other songs with guitarist Ulysses Livingston and bassist Abe Bolar. Earl Hines takes a couple of typically miraculous piano solos ("The Father's Getaway" and "Reminiscing at Blue Note") and guitarist Teddy Bunn is featured unaccompanied on four cuts plus an alternate take, one of his very rare opportunities to lead a recording session. Although this set is now out of print, swing fans will want to go out of their way to find it if they do not have the music elsewhere.
