This 7" from the Spanish band Migala is a two-song dose of dark, mythical rock music like that of the Black Heart Procession. Abel Hernandez sings much like Black Heart Procession's Pall A. Jenkins, but with the deep, hypnotic drone of Leonard Cohen and an intriguing accent. "The North of Fire" takes a piano dirge and Spanish guitar on a slow march. In the middle of the song, like the changing of the seasons, the tone takes a turn lighter. But at one point there is a pause as if to let the feeling resonate, and then the piano melody begins again for the final bombastic, glacial move. The B-side, "Sad Corner Song," meanders through a cold winterland to end with a spaced-out violin jam.
