AllMusic Review by

X Japan were perhaps the biggest band in Japan for a period in the 1990s, propelled to fame with strong arrangements and noteworthy guitars (the arrangements largely courtesy of co-founder Yoshiki Hayashi and the guitar from Hideto Matsumoto -- later to gain fame solo as Hide). With the band's breakup in 1997, Japanese rock fans went into something of a mourning period. In early 1998, the band released its last single, aptly named The Last Song, on an enhanced CD that included a bevy of additional features -- a press statement from the band on its breakup, text discographies, and music videos of the song's performance.
