This compilation marks one of the few recordings by this cooperative quartet, which featured saxophonist Budd Johnson, the Welsh pianist Dill Jones, bassist Bill Pemberton and drummer Oliver Jackson. Johnson's full throttle tenor carries his swinging original "Tag Along," then he switches to soprano for a surprising take of "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head," during which Jones simulates the trickle of the rainfall! Johnson sits out "Honeysuckle Rose," which showcases Jones in a fierce battle with a piano rapidly losing its tuning. The second half is devoted to a 1971 appearance at the Montreux Festival, mixing choice versions of standards and several enjoyable works by the group. Not enough recordings are available by either Johnson or Jones, so grab this release before it disappears from sight.
