Savitt is little-remembered today as one of the movers and shakers of the big-band days, but his shuffle rhythm was influential and spawned its own team of imitators, notably Henry Busse. With bouncy vocals from Bon Bon and Carlotta Dale, and solid solo work from saxman George Auld, the Savitt organization is heard to good effect here on this 16-track outing of cuts from 1938 to 1941, prime years for the band. A hidden treasure for big-band fans.
