The fourth of five LPs in this collector's series traces the studio recordings of the Artie Shaw orchestra during August-October 1937, a year before Shaw's band hit it big with "Begin the Beguine." The orchestra's sound was already recognizable and such selections as "The Chant," the two-part "Blues" and "Free Wheeling" find this band at its early best. The unique Leo Watson takes two vocals and a special highpoint is the original recording of Shaw's theme "Nightmare." Most of this material has not been made available yet on CD.
