AllMusic Review by

Released in 2015, Universal Records compilation, The Country Album, offers a wide array of selections ranging from beloved '60s and '70s classics to more contemporary hits. While country icons like Willie Nelson ("Always on My Mind"), Johnny Cash ("I Walk the Line"), and Patsy Cline ("Crazy") all make an appearance, Universal's use of the term "country" is loosely defined and extends here to folk, rock, Americana, and pop-crossover. In addition to more straightforward country artists like Lee Ann Womack, Tammy Wynette, and Dolly Parton are tracks from Bob Dylan, Tom Waits, Dr. Hook, and even the Soggy Bottom Boys' old-timey take on "Man of Constant Sorrow" from the O Brother Where Art Thou soundtrack. Regardless of the wide parameters, there's a lot to like on this fun two-disc set.
