Former leader of the Figures, guitarist Gary Myrick's band, Havana 3 A.M. -- consisting of bassist Tom Felicetta and drummer Jamie Chez -- leans more toward a mix of surf music and Southwestern blues-rock than the new wave that Myrick had been known for in the past. Consistently engaging, the band hits high points on the light, breezy "Havana," the rave-up "Carjack," and the semi-biographical references of the title protagonist on "Blue Gene Vincent." There are some nice nods to the Clash, especially on "Innocent Man," which is lyrically reminiscent of "Somebody Got Murdered," and the Stray Cats. Texas Glitter & Tombstone Tales is a solid, entertaining effort where the only flaw is a lack of very much originality.
