AllMusic Review by

Due to the looseness of the setting, the all-star band on this out-of-print Fat Cat's LP does not live up to its potential. The lineup is certainly impressive (trumpeter Billy Butterfield, clarinetist Kenny Davern, trombonist Spiegel Wilcox, bass saxophonist Spencer Clark, pianist Dick Wellstood, guitarist Marty Grosz, bassist Van Perry and drummer Tony DiNicola) except on "Carolina In The Morning" which matches Butterfield with some lesser-known players. The band plays seven warhorses from dixieland and swing and there are some good individual moments (particularly Butterfield on his feature "I Can't Get Started") but nothing all that special occurs despite some heated ensembles.
