AllMusic Review by

This LP from the mid-'70s reissue series titled Capitol Jazz Classics has a variety of small-group swing-oriented dates from the mid-'40s in addition to Billie Holiday's lone recording with Paul Whiteman, "Travelin' Light." Guitarist Al Casey jams with a sextet that also includes the tenor of Illinois Jacquet and trumpeter Gerald Wilson, drummer Big Sid Catlett has an opportunity to head a session (featuring trumpeter Joe Guy and Jacquet), cornetist Rex Stewart's Big Eight (which has a Duke Ellington-dominated horn section) performs two of his originals and drummer Sonny Greer's four titles are highlighted by the solos of altoist Otto Hardwick. It's an interesting if now hard-to-find set of rare material.
