So Fuhren Sie im Boot, Tauschten Gedanken Aus, und die Ruder in Ihren Händen Blitzten Wie Schüsse (loosely translated: "Thus they drove in the boat, exchanged thoughts, and the rudders in their hands flashed like shots") was the first of a series of EPs released in maxi-CD format in contrasting two-tone cardboard sleeves by the German label Berslton, a collection that became an essential part of the German experimental music/sound art scene in the 1990s. The piece itself is the last part of a long hörstück for saitenwanne (Froleyks' home-built "string tub" instrument), Über Ihnen Flogen Spatzen, which would be released a few years later by the same label. Although it is broken into five untitled tracks on the CD, the piece flows continuously. The half-metal, half-string sound of the saitenwanne engulfs the listener into a trance-like state where high overtones change constantly. The results are almost simplistic and yet somehow overwhelming. First released in 1994, So Fuhren Sie im Boot, Tauschten Gedanken Aus, und Die Ruder in Ihren Händen Blitzten Wie Schüsse was reissued in 1999 as part of the limited-edition Berslton/NURNICHTNUR box set First Four.
