With a passing glance at the cover of SLMZK!, one might mistakenly think that this was the Faint's Danse Macabre. Popping the CD in, one might still mistakenly think that this was the Faint, although there's much more going on here than just some electronic music. Drawing as much from the aforementioned Omaha, NE, band as from Skinny Puppy and various '80 British new wave acts, Alunared capably displays a fun, exhilarating electro-punk sound with vocals that are sung, whispered, and shouted among the electronic drums, grabbing synths, rupturing keyboard beats, and aggravated guitar. Combining both the contagious energy and upbeat highs of electronic music and the attitude and spirit of punk, SLMZK! is a fine introduction to this Vancouver, BC, four-piece.
