This generous two-LP set combines together all of the music originally released by Savoy on four skimpy albums, over 100 minutes of music recorded in two days. More importantly the performances are quite exciting with vibraphonist Milt Jackson and tenor-saxophonist Lucky Thompson (assisted by bassist Wendell Marshall, drummer Kenny Clarke and either Hank Jones or Wade Legge on piano) making for a perfect team. The standards and basic originals are highlighted by a three-song Duke Ellington ballad medley along with "Soul in 3/4," "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" and "The Lady Is a Tramp." This excellent bop-based music deserves to be reissued in full on CD.
