Over the last 30 years, Gregory Isaacs has been releasing some of reggae's best lover's rock songs, and his well-honed expertise shines throughout Private & Confidential. His vulnerable, pleading vocals flow on every track, making even trite romantic lyrics such as those on "Will You Be Mine," sound convincing. The opening tune, "It Ain't Easy," displays Isaacs' particular skill with bittersweet topics, and his cover of the '60s soul classic "If You Should Lose Me" reflects his talent for communicating subtle emotion. This is an even-keeled, solid album that promises sweet listening.
