With the exception of an early and long out-of-print album, POLKA PARTY is the first widely available live recording of Brave Combo. Since the band's emphasis is on exuberant dance music--primarily the polka, but also including other party musics from around the world-it is great to hear the musicians playing off of a live and enthusiastic crowd. The set serves as a fine introduction into this Texas band's music. There are a few classic polkas, a Beethoven adaptation, and some of founding member Carl Finch's originals (including the wonderful "Do Something Different"). POLKA PARTY even has a reggae schottische version of the traditional children's favorite, "Pop Goes The Weasel." But the album stresses the band's polka side, as that's where it all began for Brave Combo.
