Despite its title, Playlist: The Very Best of Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam with Full Force is more akin to a sampling of the crew’s output from 1985 through 1991. Some members of the extended Full Force family and its beneficiaries -- UTFO, Samantha Fox, Cheryl Pepsii Riley, Jasmine Guy, etc. -- either make brief appearances or are missing in action entirely. That said, most of the songs here had long been out of print, and the disc does provide a balanced mix of the hits and the forgotten. All the major Lisa Lisa-fronted singles are here, from “I Wonder If I Take You Home” through “Let the Beat Hit ‘Em,” while the Full Force albums are covered with the likes of “Alice I Want You Just for Me” and “Unfaithful” (“All in My Mind” and “Love Is for Suckers” are, oddly, left off). Some surprises come in the form of James Brown's FF-produced “Static” (a Top Ten R&B hit nonetheless) and the “House Party Movie Mix” of FF’s “Ain’t My Type of Hype.” As usual, this Playlist disc has no-nonsense, eco-friendly packaging and a PDF file containing the full liner notes and photos. (Odd note: Most instances of “You” in the track titles have been inexplicably replaced with “U.”)
