Planned Penetration is an ambitious effort that fails to live up to its potential. Kozo had help from Soulfood (mastering) and Forest (host of Musical Starstreams), but the experimental tinkering misses on most counts. There are some very cool sounds and interesting breakbeats, but Kozo does not capitalize on or extend them. Just when the disc is ready to grab on, he struts out an off-key trumpet that misses by miles. About one fourth of this disc works. The rest of it does not.
